A number of members made it on Saturday
to hand over a cheque as well as making
Easter egg and cash donations. The total
amount raised was £375 from those who
attended. . . Well done.

Committee
Notes April 2008 Meeting
The first meeting of the new committee
was held this week (1st April) and there
was almost full attendance. The new
committee members are listed on the home
page with details of how to contact via
email if required.
Starting the new year
and regarding the AGM membership you
will be pleased to know that the 2008
membership fee is still £10 and is to be
paid ASAP. This is for any associate who
joined last year ( and was undertaking
training) plus all current members. So
basically everyone who is not a new
season member. Ewan will be collecting
the fees as you start the new season.
This brings us to the next item. .
. we feel that Ewan has suffered enough
on the Training nights in the thankless
task of matching associates with
observers so for 2008 we will have this
task shared out. When you arrive you
must book in with the person wearing the
ORANGE vest. This applies to associates,
observers and anyone joining for the
first time. Other issues were
discussed and the following gives an
outline for you, and hopefully, our
members will see some good changes . .
use of equipment, charity events, social
events and a much more structured plan
of training for observers and
associates.. We want to be making sure
that our training standards result in a
bigger number of 1st time passes and
even more tests being attempted this
year. The card has been modified to
build in more specific assessments at
key points building up to the mock test
which needs to be passed before
applications for the actual advanced
test should be submitted. First
evening back is 10th April - see you
there at 7pm Jim McC

Girvan Cycle
Race
O ver
the Easter weekend 4 members of the
Ayrshire Advanced Motorcyclists
supported the
Girvan Race as Motorcycle Marshalls,
Paul Mullan, Jim McCulloch, George
Wardrope and Danny Downie.
Unfortunately Kevin ONeill was unable to
attend as West Coast Superbikes couldn't
sort his bike ( actually just get an
ignition coil ) that was faulty for the
last few weeks.
Despite a poor weather
forecast the 3 day event went very well
and the rain and snow were avoided
although the temperature was a bit
"fresh" at times especially on some of
the higher roads.
The cyclists managed up
to 90 miles in one of the stages (4 in
total) and were averaging just below 30
mph
over the 3 days.
There are a selection of photos on
the home page as the stage passed the
Clatteringshaws loch Visitors centre on
the 2nd day of the event.
IAM Announce Fees Increase
Following the anouncement from the
IAM to increase fees from Feb 08 from £85 to £109 for thr SFL package, we have just
been notified that this decision has been postponed as described below.:-
On 12th November 2007 we wrote to you regarding an increase in the price of
the Skill for Life programme. This memo also outlined the implementation of a two-part payment facility
for the use of IAM Groups when selling the Skill for Life product to both car drivers and motorcyclists.
We have reviewed the implementation of the price increase and after consultation we
have now decided that the price increase will be effective on 1st April 2008. The introduction of the
two-part payment will also be on this date. This postponement will give IAM Groups
the opportunity to sell SfL at the old price in the important early months of the year. We hope
that this additional period of time, at this price, will give Groups and others the opportunity
to increase numbers for 2008.

They were trying to raise £35,000
