Sunday Run/Training

The weather forecast earlier in the week for Sunday was extremely promising with pictures of the sun dominating most of the weather reports. However, on Sunday morning the weather was the usual heavy drizzle and looking very dark. My first thought was ‘Sod this for a game of soldiers’ and back to bed. Then Linda announced that that her sister was coming down with her kids and suddenly the weather didn’t look quite so bad after all.

After filling up with fuel, I met up with Drew (a ROSPA member) and headed over to the Cotton Mill for the 10.30a.m. meeting time. On arrival we were met by Robert and John Taylor who had been waiting since 10.00a.m. Tip for the future guys; Don’t stop reading at ‘Sunday Run’, read the rest of the e-mail.
Shortly afterwards John Harkins (who had just passed his advanced test) and Ewan on his Kawasaki ZX6R arrived. No prizes for guessing who wasn’t going to be hanging about. Finally Bob Fisher arrived and as he glided into the car park treated us all to a spectacular gearbox clunk. Only happens when there’s an audience. He then proceeded to inform us that his oil warning light had started to flash on the way over and asked if there was anywhere local where he could obtain motorcycle oil. The local Halfords store was suggested. He then asked where he should put it and to our credit we all resisted the obvious answer. As concerned fellow motorcyclists we all gathered round the bike with various suggestions. After the laughter had subsided, Bob set off for Halfords and at 11.00a.m. the rest of us set off for Girvan with Ewan in the lead. We met Bob on the A71 going in the opposite direction as he returned from Halfords but he soon caught up with the group.

The weather improved quite dramatically as we headed off to meet Bruff at the coffee stall in Girvan where we topped up our caffeine levels before heading on to New Galloway for lunch.

The ride from Girvan to New Galloway via Newton Stewart was, as usual, excellent and the weather was absolutely fantastic. The lunch at the New Galloway cafe was very pleasant with good company and good food.

After lunch we headed for the A713 and back to Dalmellington where we parted company. Bruff headed over to Straiton, Ewan and Robert continued up the A713 heading back to Paisley and Bob, John H, John T, Drew and I headed over the B741 to New Cumnock and on to Kilmarnock.
All in all, an excellent day. Thanks to all those who took part in making it such a great day.
