Sunday May 25th Leaving the
Cotton Mill at 09:30 heading to
LINDESFARNE otherwise known as
HOLY ISLE near Berwick upon Tweed
Across the 50mph bypass then 4 th
exit South on A76 towards Dumfries,
passing Sanquahar then turn left at
Mennock to Leadhills.
Across to A74 then right towards
Moffat (M74 to square the tyres if you
prefer)
Through Moffat towards Selkirk on the
A708 stopping at the far end of St
Mary's Loch for a brew ( Is it in
England ) or a coffee , smoke and some
grub . This is 84 miles so far and 2/3
of the way there. Even my
old Firestorm could make this on one
tank, but not by much , Fuel up in
Moffat then catch up with the
group at the St Mary Loch cafe coffee
stop if you need to.
Next is Selkirk through town centre
then briefly south on the A7 then left
as you leave the town on the A699
towards Kelso, and head onwards to
Coldstream and join the A697 .
Through Coldstream to Crookham. Then
head across minor roads towards Fenwick
or Lowick. At this point the A1
major road is either straight across to
Holy Island but you may join a few miles
south in which case head north and then
Right to Holy Island. If you reach
Berwick turnaround , head south and try
again.
Stop at the Causeway for a photo and
to check the tides timetable. John
Campbell says the tides are ok until 5pm
so I'm taking no responsibility for this
if anyone gets crabs on the way across .
. .caused by the high tide of course !.
Total dist 145miles We can sort
out the return route during the lunch
etc.
Cheers
